Hospitals in Hannover: Overview & Accommodation for Relatives

Hannover is one of the most important medical centres in northern Germany. Patients from all over Germany and from abroad come to the city for surgery, transplants, cancer therapy or neurosurgical procedures — and with them relatives who need a place to stay for days or weeks. This overview names the best-known hospitals in Hannover and explains where patients and companions can stay nearby.

The main hospitals in Hannover

• Hannover Medical School (MHH) — the university hospital in the east of the city, known among other things for transplant medicine, oncology, cardiology and paediatrics. 2.7 km from our apartments.
• International Neuroscience Institute (INI) — specialist clinic for neurosurgery and neurology, also in the east of Hannover; 2.6 km away.
• KRH Klinikum Siloah — large hospital of the Klinikum Region Hannover group within the city, with a broad range of departments.
• KRH Klinikum Nordstadt — another site of the Klinikum Region Hannover, north of the city centre.
• Kinder- und Jugendkrankenhaus auf der Bult — the children's hospital in the south of the city.
• Diakovere Henriettenstift and Friederikenstift — church-run hospitals close to the city centre.

Why staying close to the hospital matters

A relative accompanying a patient wants to be at the hospital quickly in the morning, rest briefly at midday and not face a long drive in the evening. A hotel room is expensive for that and cramped over time — especially when the family comes along or the stay lasts weeks. A furnished apartment with its own kitchen and washing machine near the hospital is the calmer and more affordable solution.

Our furnished apartments and rooms are at Schierholzstraße 61 in Hannover Groß-Buchholz — 2.7 km from the MHH and 2.6 km from the INI. Many of our guests stay here because of a treatment or to be close to relatives. What to expect:

• Apartments with 2–3 rooms and their own fully equipped kitchen — special diets and familiar meals can be prepared yourself.
• Rooms for 2–4 people so the family can stay together; 17 furnished units in total.

Everyday life between hospital and accommodation

A REWE supermarket with bakery is about 50 m away (open until 23:00), a restaurant with terrace is right next door, more shops are within 300 m. The tram stop of line 7 is about 550 m away — towards the city centre and main station (7.1 km, about 20 minutes). The hospitals in the east are minutes away by car; hospitals in other districts are easy to reach by tram and bus or by taxi. Hannover Airport is 14 km away.

For patients from abroad

International patients and their families appreciate accommodation where they can communicate and where the kitchen allows their own habits. We help with questions in several languages, issue an invoice on request and hand over the keys in person — check-in and check-out are possible between 8:00 and 22:00, by arrangement also for late arrivals. For longer stays we issue a Wohnungsgeberbestätigung (landlord confirmation).
