MHH Accommodation for Relatives: Stay Near MHH Instead of a Hotel

A hospital stay at Hannover Medical School (MHH) is often as hard on relatives as on the patient: long days at the bedside, an uncertain duration, and the question of where to sleep. Hotels near the hospital are expensive, guesthouses near the MHH fill up quickly. Our furnished apartments at Schierholzstraße 61 in Hannover Groß-Buchholz are the calm alternative: 2.7 km from the MHH, with own kitchen, free parking and flexible duration — per night or per month.

Staying near the MHH: hotel, guesthouse or apartment?

• Hotel — convenient but expensive for longer stays; no cooking, little space for the family.
• Guesthouse (Pension) near the MHH — usually cheaper, but often without own kitchen and with limited availability.
• Furnished apartment — own kitchen, washing machine, room for several people, price per night or as a monthly flat rate; ideal when the length of treatment is still open.

What relatives can expect with us

Our guest house has 17 furnished units in total: apartments with two to three rooms and their own kitchen, plus rooms we set up with two to four beds — so spouses, parents and children can stay together. Everything is ready to move in: beds freshly made, towels ready, free Wi-Fi and TV in every room. Washing machine and dryer are in the house, and a large shared kitchen with seating complements the private kitchens.

• Free parking directly at the house, no parking fees like at the hospital car park.
• REWE supermarket with bakery 50 m away, open until 23:00 — also after evening visiting hours.

Stay flexible if the treatment takes longer

Hospital schedules change — your accommodation should adapt. With us you first book the period you know and extend if necessary: from a few nights to several months. For longer stays we quote a monthly flat rate well below hotel level. The price is all-in including kitchen, Wi-Fi, parking, washing machine, bed linen and towels. For longer rentals we may ask for a small refundable deposit and a short rental contract; for a few nights a simple confirmation is usually enough.

Also for patients before and after treatment

Not only relatives but patients themselves use the apartments — before an inpatient admission, between outpatient appointments or after discharge, when the journey home is not yet sensible. The own kitchen allows special diets and familiar meals, the quiet location in Groß-Buchholz the rest you need. On request we issue an invoice, for example for insurers or employers.

What relatives ask us most often

Whether a room with two beds is enough for parents, whether children can come along, whether you can still shop after evening visiting hours, whether the car is parked safely — the answers are simple: we adapt rooms and apartments to the number of people, children are welcome, the REWE is open until 23:00, and parking is free directly at the house. Everything else we clarify in advance on WhatsApp so you can concentrate on what matters.

Getting here

From the main station (7.1 km) tram line 7 brings you to us in about 20 minutes; the stop is about 550 m from the house. From Hannover Airport (14 km) it is around 15 minutes by taxi or car. Check-in and check-out are possible between 8:00 and 22:00; keys are handed over in person, by arrangement also for late arrivals — hospital admissions do not follow hotel hours, after all.
